Mara grew up in Alamosa, Colorado, where she developed a love for science exploring the outdoors and watching documentaries. For undergraduate, she received a B.A. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Philosophy from Cornell College. She conducted undergraduate research with Craig Tepper studying the symbiosis between different algae clades and fire coral hosts. She moved to Salt Lake City to join the Elde lab as a research technician, where she will be working with Zoë studying pathogenic fungi. In her free time, Mara enjoys skiing, white water rafting, hiking, and reading.
