Research Technician

Drew Janik

Drew grew up in Prescott, Arizona where he developed a love of the outdoors and science.  He received a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology at Oregon State University and fell in love with the Pacific Northwest.  He decided to stick around Oregon State and joined Michael Kent’s lab.  Here he received a Master of Science studying the parasite fauna of Upper Klamath Lake, OR and its effects on two endangered species of fish endemic to the region.

During his time in the Kent lab, Drew would help in their zebrafish facility.  He quickly took an interest in this research model and decided to move to the other coast to pursue a second master’s at SUNY-ESF in Syracuse, NY.  He worked with Chris Whipps studying Mycobacterium infections in zebrafish.  His current research interests include zebrafish health and their use to model disease.

During his free time Drew enjoys hiking, playing drums in punk bands and collecting vinyl records.
